The Supergirl in all of Us

Today my little superhero wanted to wear her new Supergirl dress, complete with cape. We got back so late from Chicago that we missed church this morning, but I let her wear the dress anyways. She kept saying things like:

Supergirl is flying.
Supergirl is saving the day.
Supergirl will take to the sky.
Supergirl tripped.

It was really cute. She wanted to play outside and make her cape flutter in the non-existent wind.

We loved having such a low key day, with just doing laundry and dishes, no traveling. I felt very accomplished and very Supergirl myself getting the sheets and clothes all done and put away. We even got groceries. For our exhaustive selves, we felt pretty accomplished. However, a water main broke later that night and we were without water by bedtime. Made things a little off, but we managed.

Our little superhero played Uno and Mario Kart with us and got to run around outside. It was a great low key day. If we could only have more of them!

Wedding in Chicago

So today we had a trip to Chicago! Going to a wedding! Ashton of course made over Kaida this morning. But not for long as we had to take our 3 hour trip there.

All glammed up and ready to go!

At the church my husband and I took turns holding Ashton up to see. He more than me. But on one occasion, when I was holding her, Ashton played with my pearls and leans in to me and whispers, "These are core memories." She loves 'Inside Out' and memories are colored spheres. Of course she goes on to say I have sadness memories, while I shh her to watch the wedding. But it still tickled me.

We had some down time between the wedding and the reception, so we checked out the place and Ashton played some games.

Finally the bar opened up and Ashton was super excited to order a coke. She was just like the adults.

While most everyone was on the grass, I found a nice shaded spot to sit. It was perfect and so was the weather. Not too hot, not too cold. Just great if in the shade.

Ashton was fascinated by all the golfers. She hadn't seen golfing before and loved to see the putt the ball in the holes. She said she wanted to play and got very disappointed when she found out she wasn't a member and couldn't. I told her we'd go putt-putting one day soon.

Here is the group that typically gets together and plays games or hangs out - minus the bride and groom.

Ashton was very shy to get out on the dance floor without her mommy or daddy. But this little girl, adored her and grabbed her hands and brought her out to the dance floor. It was super sweet.

There was then the father and daughter dance. It was terrible taking video, but I caught the tail end of Ashton and her daddy dancing to it together too.

Then there was lots of dancing to be had. We danced a lot as a family, but on the kids songs, that same bold girl that loved Ashton would dance with her.

Our table consisted of our gang and this lovely couple. They were just smitten with Ashton and the adoption process. We also talked a lot about our furbabies.

We stayed much later than anticipated, knowing we had a 3 hour drive back home. But we all had a great time! Ashton did very well. Even ate her salad, soup, and all her mac and cheese and 1 large chicken plank. We were so proud of her.

Congrats to Mr. B & Mrs. B! It was so much fun!

Pizza Party

My girl who doesn't like bread or crust and only eats pepperoni off of pizza, is eating a pizza at daycare today. Today was a back to school pizza party, and I have proof she'll eat a whole pizza! This may make life easier. Maybe I can get her to eat a grilled cheese sandwich too - or is that too ambitious?

Regardless, I'm glad she's eating more foods (even if it's not the healthiest!)

While I've Been Gone

So while I've been at the work conference in Iowa, my husband has been texting me these photos.

I hear that Kiara and Kaida have been chasing each other and that Khaleesi loves to give her kisses. Kaida, though she has small toys of her own, loves to play with Khaleesi's giant toys.

Ashton is as smitten as my husband with the new puppy. She wants her to sleep with her on her bed. She's gotten some snuggles, but nothing overnight.

Home Sweet Home

On the forever drive home our long list of 17 names got narrowed down and funneled down and in the last hour of the trip, our new chihuahua girl got a name.

Meet Kaida! It means Little Dragon in Japanese.

She did great on the trip. She just snuggled up next to Amadeus and slept most of the way. WE had no puking on this leg of the trip. To which I am very grateful.

We introduced each family member to her and she did great. Peyton was curious about her and the rest were like, yeah, whatever. Khaleesi was ecstatic. So we had to calm her down.

Ami really likes Kaida's new bed, and made himself home.

So after our long weekend trip, I had to pack for my work conference off in Iowa. I got to be back home for only a handful of hours. Ami wanted to go with me.

Kaida loves to play and is adorable. She even barked and growled at herself in the mirror. She is so funny.

This girl is very food driven and hasn't learned her manners yet. Whenever I opened the bag she would climb on me trying to get into the bag. So I showed her how Amadeus was patient and would stand there and sit waiting. And after a bit she learned to stop running over me, wait, and sit! She's so smart!

I think she's going to do just fine with our family. She's fitting in nicely.

Ashton tried sneaking into our bed to sleep with Kaida. However, we got Ashton out and amazingly Kaida curled up and slept on the bed next to us as if she had for years. Just like Arwen! We are very excited to have her with us. I just wish I didn't have to leave on my work trip this week!

I told my husband I wanted lots of videos and pictures while I am away. I hate to miss all the firsts! I just hope there's a lot of bonding time with the pup and with Ashton!

Road Trip

So we packed up wearing just the clothes on our backs and drove to get our new puppy. We packed snacks, puppy toys, blankets, and everything to make the ride comfortable. We brought Amadeus with us. I got up at 2:30 am and we got going on the road by 3:30 am. (It was a long hike.)

My hubby drove the first leg for about 3 hours. I started the 2nd leg. By 7 am Amadeus sneaked into my lap. And then he puked all over me! I didn't have a blanket in my lap as I was driving. I instantly regretted not packing extra clothes.

We pulled into a McDonalds, which luckily had the strong air blowers and I rinsed off my pants and dried them under the drier. Very humbling. Won't get into how the direr was placed right in front of the door so anyone walking in or in the hallway could see me pantless!

Needless to say, I "cleaned up" and resumed our drive.

By 4 pm we arrived at the breeders. She showed us her chihuahuas and Ashton was thrilled that she got to hold any of them she wanted.

But we were there just for one particular girl, whom the breeder named Madison. We had a list of names, but knew that her personality would pick it out.

She was sweet as could be. She loved being held. My husband was smitten.

Amadeus was great with her pack. He ran around with the other chis and got snacks. He was amazing. We were proud of him.

At around 6 pm we left with our newest family member. We then headed down to my cousin's house  (about an hour away) who graciously said she'd put us up for the night, unexpectedly. We couldn't wait to see her as she has a little boy about 1 year younger than Ashton. And she said we could go to the beach, which instantly excited Ashton.

We arrived at her house and Mr. G hit it off with Ashton instantly. But of course the first thing out of Ashton's mouth was "Are we going to the beach?" And as it was 7:30 pm we hurried off. We got there by 8 pm. Just enough to get an hour in of play.

Ashton got to see the ocean for the first time.

My cousin Miss A bought Ashton a swimsuit. I put her in it (right there on the beach - luckily no one was around) and she ran off to the waves. She was insistent about building a sand castle. Mr. G and Ashton made more of a sand moat.

Our impromptu visit was so short lived. But we got a shower and a bed to sleep in. Miss A even laundered our clothes! I got clean pants! It was wonderful. We just hope our visit with our family can be longer next time.
