2016 in Review

Wow, it's that time to reflect how things have changed or not changed in the last year. Again, we decided to keep things low key. Ashton will stay up and watch the ball drop with us to bring in the new year. We're all happy just snuggling together, playing games, and vegging.

Here is 2016 Highlights:

February - Cast Removal

August - Baseball

September - Child to Work Day

October - Pumpkin Patch

November - Peyton Missing

December - Holiday Recital

2016 has been a very tough year. Many highs and lows. Ashton was in another cast this year, hives breakout, and had cavities! I'm hoping next year will be a clean bill of health for her! We welcomed Kaida, a Chihuahua, to our family! 2 great vacations - Mackinac Island and Disney World. We got to see my dearest friends and share Disney together. We also lost 3 dear furbabies this year. We lost Arwen our little Chihuahua, Dawson my Tibetan Spaniel, and Skylar also a Tibetan Spaniel. They were family and are missed. Then we almost lost Peyton! That whirlwind of her adventure was almost 2 weeks. I'm so glad it turned out to be a happy ending. Many who lose pets are not as fortunate. Her dancing classes stopped, started a new one and stopped again. Her tumbling class stopped and she started a new one. We're looking into her Kindergarten schools for next year. Lots of changes this year, and next year starting Kindergarten, I'm assuming a lot of changes and growing up. We are very blessed. Ashton still doesn't sleep well, but is still a good kid. She does try, though exhausting as she may be. She still loves making up songs about anything, The Headless Horseman, Pua, whatever. Her favorite movies are "Descendants", "Secret Life of Pets", and "DC Superhero Girls". She's still doing violin, though we thought about dropping her out because of her performance anxiety. but she begged to stay, and she's good. So she's in and the recitals are only twice a year. We'll worry about the next one in 6 months. Her favorite things to say around the house are "Aw, klutz!", "I don't want to go to bed!", and this thing where she just makes noises and goes up a couple octaves saying "Oooooo!" She loves Legos and drawing the most these days. I'm sure when it warms up it will be outside playing again. I'm working on reading with her and she can write her first and last name. We're just starting on her middle. She's such a smart little girl! Crazy questions all the time. Bring on 2017!

1st Time Bowling

Our family went bowling with a couple friends of ours. It was Ashton's first time. We took turns showing her how to do it. Then our little trooper was ready to do it all on her own!

Needless to say, she loved it. She wasn't happy stopping after two games.

We then stopped by the bowling store on our way out and looked at bowling balls and shoes. And Ashton was so not interested. Guess if they don't have a Star Wars ball or something similar it's boring.

But other than that, bowling was a success. Hopefully we can do again sometime soon.

The Hatching of a Draggle Hatchimal

Santa brought Ashton a Hatchimal for Christmas. Ashton has an obsession with eggs. She loves watching YouTube videos with surprise eggs. And her Rosie and Rosie 2.0 were a hit. So getting a Hatchimal from Santa seemed right up her alley.

With so much going on yesterday there was no time to get her Draggle egg to hatch. But today we do.

Ashton got a blue & green Draggle egg meaning the Hatchimal could be blue or green.

It would coo and tap back when she tapped and it was very interactive. Ashton had to learn to rock it and "burp" it and all sorts of things while waiting for it to hatch. It was quite an adventure. It didn't take too long to wait for it to hatch, maybe 20 minutes of so of continual play with the egg, but the hatching took a long time. That was quite a proces. Ashton would watch the egg so intently to hatch she'd stop interacting and the Hatchimal would fall asleep and snore.

She decided she wanted to name the Draggle Arwen after our Chihuahua that passed earlier this year. We thought it was a good fit. Ashton was surprised that she could dance, sing, and flap her wings. She loved that they cold interact together.

She immediately wanted to take  her on her skateboard, and they rolled around together. When it was dinner time she wanted her by her at the table and it took us awhile to figure out there was an off button as she kept dancing about.

Arwen is adorable! I think these two will have many adventures together.

The Day of Christmas

Ashton did not sleep well last night. Funny. I thought with it being Christmas Eve and awaiting Santa to come she'd go right to sleep. But no, there was crying and it took forever for Ashton to fall asleep.

That of course didn't help me being sick. By Christmas morning, I was a bit better, but still under the weather. But this time I wasn't going to miss anything.

Ashton and we went down to eat breakfast and Ashton could see her filled stocking. But she wasn't allowed to touch until after breakfast. Instead of prayers we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. She still ate slow! She was so excited to see that Santa remembered to bring her some chocolate and super hero hot wheels cars.

Then it was presents. I don't want to focus too much on this aspect as Christmas is about family, togetherness, and the reason for the season, not presents. But there were a few key ones that Ashton flipped about.

She finally got her skateboard. Ashton was thrilled. She was ready to use it all about the house. We told her she wasn't allowed to use it except to sit on it. But we did get a photo of her standing on it once.

Then she got a great surprise from Santa. A HUGE Tauntaun sleeping bag. She can't wait to put it on her bed, but I truly think it's bigger than her beg. It's amazing and very warm.

Ashton doesn't play dress up, but one girly thing she did ask for was Wonder Woman bracelets. And she got them. She was very thrilled as these had sound effects. Very cool for this tom boy. And what a thing to share with this Mama who grew up loving Wonder Woman.

We skyped with family and then Uncle J and LauLau came over and we went to Aunt D's for a Christmas lunch. I was able to socialize a bit then crash pretty much after. I was on the couch asleep. I hate being unwell during the holidays. But at least I got to spend time with the family.

I was even well enough after my nap to come home and play the Christmas game with my family before knocking myself out again. I'm so grateful for my family, and everyone able to spend it together for Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The Eve Before Christmas

Today Ashton and my dear husband when to his family's place for Christmas Eve. This day is always a big deal. However, with me feeling very feverish and with a stomach bug, I just couldn't make it. I was able to drag myself out to get Ashton to do her Truth in the Tinsel and take a couple quick pics before she left to go to church and spend Christmas Eve with the family. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

When she came back I was told she behaved during the 2 hour Christmas Eve service, but when it was the end of the candles, she tipped the candle over and all the wax fell in my dear husband's lap. Yikes!

Then they opened presents at her Aunt D's home. She got a board game and a Lego set. Ashton was very excited and wanted to build the set right away, but it was late and we told her all she had time to do was put cookies on a plate and pour the milk for Santa and go to bed.

She wasn't very happy about going to bed, but she knew Santa wouldn't come otherwise. But she's too excited to fall asleep, and I'm not feeling too much better. It's going to be a long night.

Day 24: Cross

This last one, Ashton loved. She could pretty much do it all on her own, and it's Christmas Eve, so my not be excited!

If you can believe it this girl loves Easter more than Christmas. Not because of the significance of Jesus' resurrection, but because looking for Eater eggs. Regardless, she did love the tie-in to Easter. Made her feel like it was closer.

And here is Ashton's Christmas tree decked out in Truth in the Tinsel ornaments she's done over the past 3 weeks in all it's glory!

All is good! Merry Christmas!
